Valentine's Day Drama

V-day is just around the corner and emotions are running high. Normally, this time of the year I am holed up in my bedroom watching sappy movies but recently I met some like-minded people who believe that being single is no reason for us to miss out on the fun that couples get to have. If everyone in the world is going out on 14th Feb, what's stopping us?

Do you remember that scene from Sex and the City where all 4 of them wear black to someone's wedding as a silent protest? Well, that's exactly what me and my BFFs do. Every V-day, we dress up in black, go out and judge other couples. BEST TIME EVER.
Last year we saw a guy wearing yellow t-shirt with a red cap. His girlfriend must be lovin' it - she is dating McDonald's!

This year since V-day is on a Tuesday and we will be in office all day, we have decided to send each other chocolates and gifts. When all the couples around us are sad for not receiving anything(fingers crossed), we'd be happily munching away on our chocolates and not sharing them. The day is about Love, and I absolutely love my besties. We are a group of 3 and honestly, if there are 3 of me out there, people - be scared. If someone ever heard us talk, poor human would have to bathe in holy water to cleanse himself.

But, wait, let's go back on the topic of V-day. I am going to officially stop using Facebook in February. Can we just stop with all the hearts and the red and the sappiness in general. Food Network (page that I usually drool over)  posted a video of Red Heart-shaped Pancakes! GAG. Why, just why would you do that? Every thing is red. Hearts and roses. STOP. This is a cry for help!

It seems all Grey matter turns Red in Feb.

I have innumerable issues with this one day especially because I don't have a special someone. Even with all my plans and rants, I will be single at the end of that day and it is going to be okay.

To all the lovers celebrating, try not to shove it in our faces.
To all the Singles, try not to feel too low.

As for me, I will be right here, stuffing my face with all the brownies and donuts in the world.

So long peeps,
XOXO
Pearl

Pain

What nobody told us  it never gets better it only gets older sometimes duller.  It stays with you like that ache that you are used to one that doesn't hurt anymore just exists. One fine day you woke up  not the same, an ache where there was none now a part of you follows you where you go grows as you grow older.

Are We Better Than This?

Children near trashcans jumping in joy, You see them playing, Do you see the hunger in their eyes? A woman on the street Walking fast at night, Was she out partying or working How is either of the two an invite? There is fear in every corner Suppression in shadows Filth on the road, Careless storms behind closed doors. Not for you though, You only saw what you wanted to see - The world as it should be. - PS

Book Review: Leah On The Offbeat

You know it is a good book when it ends up schooling you. I am too old to read high school drama anymore but seeing people rave about Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda and Leah On The Offbeat, I finally gave LOTO a try. And boy am I glad. Initially sceptical, because the writing style is aimed at teenagers, the first few chapters were a bit difficult to get through. I found the language exceedingly plain, it was overall too kiddish.  It was when the characters developed in the next few chapters, that I was hooked. I have yet to read such great character development in a high school book.  Let's start off with Leah. She is your average protagonist -  angry at the world, a broken family, overthinking things, overweight, smart, the only difference, she isn't lonely. She has a lot of friends. Oh and the fact that she is bi, secretly. As we delve further into the book, her layers peel off. She is in love with a girl who is dating her best friend who happens to be a guy.
