Self-help - Reflection time

It has truly been a long time this time. Too busy? Nah, it is just an excuse for lagging behind. So since the last time I have read quite a few books, mostly self-help, not a genre I prefer, my calling is still fiction but I need some fixing up. Self-help books are supposed to make me help myself, weird. But it works. Everyone says that and you don't want to believe them but what if the things written in these books were actually true?
The latest one I am reading is "Who will Cry when you die?"  - Robin Sharma. It is nice, pretty simple but there are a few things that I staunchly disagree with.
1. He says not to read in bed. IMPOSSIBLE. Not happening, never. I need a book before I can sleep.
2. Getting up at 6. Like seriously? Yeah, yeah it is a good thing and you do get a lot done, I have experienced and you are happier throughout the day but bargain between an extra hour of sleep and happiness...how about I get up at 7? That's early too, right?

I read the secret Again. I like that book and it helps. Swear.

I borrowed The Secret from my aunt and as soon as I started reading, I was addicted. I tried to apply it to my like and let me tell you it isn't easy. You have to monitor your thoughts every second of your life. Something annoys you, irritates you, especially early up in the morning ( for reference go through my Bad Day post) change your thoughts asap! You feel like killing someone, smile. It kills you. It is so easy to get angry at people and giving them a free pass feels like charity, as if you have done them a huge favour and they should fall down at your feet. It's like that for me. Narcissist much?

Being good, amiable is a chore. Back to the book, it gives real life examples of real people and I applied it on my life. At home whenever I went to visit the busy market in town with my mom she always complained about lack of parking space, she fretted she never got a parking space and had to wait for at least half hour for one. I told her you are easily going to get one and as soon as I said it, we got the space we wanted, right in front of the store we had to got to. Since then she always says I am lucky and she only ever get parking when she's with me. It is just that I believe we will get a space, I don't worry about it and I don't think about the no-s. A very similar incident has been mentioned in the book.

The story from the book that has stayed with me and inspired me is the one where a man used to put up his goals on his bulletin. One time he put up a picture of a house he wanted. He used to look at his board daily and really focus. Took him a few years, he had a family, they moved away and years later he found an old box in his storeroom. When he opened the box he found his old bulletins and what he saw brought tears to his eyes. The house in the picture was his, he was living in it now. He didn't realise he was living his dream.

I wonder what that would feel like. I have a picture too and I love the house, can't wait to start living.

My understanding of the secret is me. My perception, my thoughts, my goals and that's it folks, that's the big secret. You want something ask for it, fight for it, don't give up and never let go. Believe that the universe exists to do your bidding. I am not saying become a narcissistic bitch like me but believe that you deserve what you want, be it anything. Don't be afraid to dream. Your dreams are your very own. you own them. You deserve to live them. The only difference between people who achieved and failed is that they believed.

Someone said -
Remember the man who gave up? No one does.

The Secret gives another valuable piece of advice - Put yourself first. Never put anyone before you. If you aren't your first priority, why would you b e anyone else's? Only you can truly deeply love and care for yourself, doesn't mean you don't care about others, you do. You come first, remember. Your dreams are important. Don't keep sacrificing thinking it makes you a nice person, it makes you a fool, gives others an opportunity to walk all over you. Charity starts at home. Don't be mean but do things you want, things that make you happy.

I keep happiness above all. You are happy, you have achieved everything you possibly could. You are happy means you are richer than anyone else. Guess the secret to your happiness - You.

That is all for today's lesson, self-help, self-improvement, reflection whatever

Pain

What nobody told us  it never gets better it only gets older sometimes duller.  It stays with you like that ache that you are used to one that doesn't hurt anymore just exists. One fine day you woke up  not the same, an ache where there was none now a part of you follows you where you go grows as you grow older.

Book Review: Leah On The Offbeat

You know it is a good book when it ends up schooling you. I am too old to read high school drama anymore but seeing people rave about Simon vs The Homosapiens Agenda and Leah On The Offbeat, I finally gave LOTO a try. And boy am I glad. Initially sceptical, because the writing style is aimed at teenagers, the first few chapters were a bit difficult to get through. I found the language exceedingly plain, it was overall too kiddish.  It was when the characters developed in the next few chapters, that I was hooked. I have yet to read such great character development in a high school book.  Let's start off with Leah. She is your average protagonist -  angry at the world, a broken family, overthinking things, overweight, smart, the only difference, she isn't lonely. She has a lot of friends. Oh and the fact that she is bi, secretly. As we delve further into the book, her layers peel off. She is in love with a girl who is dating her best friend who happens to be a guy.

Are We Better Than This?

Children near trashcans jumping in joy, You see them playing, Do you see the hunger in their eyes? A woman on the street Walking fast at night, Was she out partying or working How is either of the two an invite? There is fear in every corner Suppression in shadows Filth on the road, Careless storms behind closed doors. Not for you though, You only saw what you wanted to see - The world as it should be. - PS
